SCOUT SERVICE & RELATIONSHIP WEEK OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED!

The Scout Service and Relationship week (a.k.a. “Job Week”) for the year 2015 was officially launched at the Presidential Secretariat on the 5th of June 2015, by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena. The Eagle Patrol of the 16th Colombo Scout Troop, who emerged as the “Highest Collecting Patrol” of the Job Week in 2014, initiated the Job Week by rendering their service. This event was organised by the Sri Lanka Scout Association and His Excellency the President officially initiated the programme by presenting a “Job Card” to the members of the Eagle Patrol. The 16th Colombo Scout Group emerged as “The Highest Collectors in the Island” in the Job Week in 2014. Mirigama Training Camp 2015

Colombo Scout Youth Forum 2015

The concept of Youth Forum has been promoted by the World Organization of Scout Movement to create a platform for the young scouts to get together to meet new friends, share experiences- views on scouting and contribute new ideas to the Movement on how to enrich educational programs for young people. Colombo district took a giant step forward in scouting in Sri Lanka by initiating the first ever District Youth Forum for the Senior Scouts and Rover Scouts, which held from 27th February to 01st March 2015 at Meth Arana Center, Pore, Athurugiriya. The Organizers invited each Scout Group to join hands with COLOMBO SCOUT YOUTH FORUM 2015 and gain this great exposure while expanding each other’s network. Each scout Troop or Rover Crew sent two official representatives and one observer to the Youth Forum.There were 59 scouts from different troops. Scout Investiture – 2015

  “The investiture ceremony is the time when a Scout, by means of the words of the Scout Promise, publicly announces their commitment to the Scout Law. At the ceremony, the Scout makes the Promise to the Scouts and Scouters of their troop and to all the Scouts of the world. It is once the recruit has made the promise that he is a Scout.” An Investiture for the newly joined recruits was held on Saturday the 7th of March 2015 and 6 new recruits got invested and were welcomed by the Group Scout Leader and the Scout Leader. The investiture is the beginning of a special time in a young person’s life. Scout-aged children are entering the stage of life when they desire to break away from their parents, find out about the world, and try to shape their own identity in it. Prof. Indra de Soysa – End of an era for STC Mount Lavinia… Prof. Indra de Soysa, the 18th Warden of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, left College last year after concluding an outstanding term as the Warden of S. Thomas’ College.
